Life is like a reed to sail, with passion as its boat
Du Yuhan chose the major, Accounting (bilingual class of ACCA auditing) of GCUT’s International Business School out of her passion for accounting after the National College Entrance Examination. She devoted to her study once she entered the university with great enthusiasm. She said that she was impressed with the study room on the first floor of the Administrative Building during her four years of college life. It is often the case that she would bring her computer and learning materials to study here the whole day with a cup of coffee. That’s because the study room is close to the teachers’ office of the International Business School, thus she could ask questions from her teachers there in a short time.
She got up by starlight and not to rest till the dark came, which did not fail her for her diligence and hardworking since she won the “Outstanding Merit Student” at the school level three times and was awarded as an “Outstanding Graduate” of GCUT. She still felt lucky to choose the major up to now, stating that the major matches her expectation, and it is even beyond her imagination. She added that “our teachers are conscientious and responsible while the International Business School provides excellent study environment and abundant exchange platforms, from which I have learned a lot. Moreover, our course contents are in line with international standards, which lays a solid foundation of my pursing further education overseas in the future. All these strengthen my belief that my passion and pursuit of the major is worthwhile. ”
Following your heart, and go wherever it takes you
In all things success depends on previous preparation, and without such previous preparation there is sure to be failure. Du Yuhan did not improvise the thought of postgraduate application. When asked about her original aspiration, she replied as follows: “Most of our teachers from the International Business School have studies overseas, who are about the same age as us. They pay attention to our life as well as our future development, and often share their experience of studying abroad with us. Therefore, I started to consider study abroad for my master’s degree at the beginning of the second semester of my junior year. I pored over enrollment requirements of every top-notch universities, based on which I set up specific goals for every stage of my college years”.
Through careful comparison, Du Yuhan figured out that most international top-notch universities require a higher grade point average, especially for the core courses of one’s major. Consequently, she worked even harder to achieve her dream of getting admitted to a top university that she prefers. She concentrated on every course, striving to get a good grade to meet the admission requirements of her dream school. When learning knowledge of her major, she also focused on improving her English proficiency. She scored 7.0 in IELTS through her hard work. She believed that her preparations for studying abroad were similar to playing a game, where she needed to keep upgrading, overcoming various barriers along the way and finally beat the “big boss” of the game. Through the journey was full of hardships, she also felt a sense of happiness and fulfillment.
Honoring commitments and taking practical actions while practicing earnestly to achieve great goals
Du has started to find internships in enterprises since the summer vacation of her junior year in order to put theory into practice and improve personal comprehensive quality, thus laying a solid foundation for her postgraduate application in the future. She worked as an intern in four enterprises during her college years, including well-known enterprises such as Morgan Stanley Huaxin Fund Management Company Limited and Baker Tilly.
“I was designated as a member of a project group by the enterprise I work as an intern, in which I have opportunities to participate in several auditing and consulting projects for financial enterprises. The experience allows me to realize the importance of combining theoretical knowledge with practice.” Du recalled, “I applied what I have learned from related courses based on realities and finally achieved pleasing results.”
Such valuable internships enable Du to better understand knowledge of her major through practice, but make it clear for her that what major she will choose for her further education, that is, accounting, the major she is good at and prefers.
