Guangdong Provincial Department of Education has released the Notice on the Dynamic Adjustment of Provincial Demonstration Modern Industrial Institutes recently, which includes the Institute of Intelligent Manufacturing Industry of Guangzhou City University of Technology (GCUT) for the second time based on its list of provincial demonstration industrial institutes (2025-2028). It symbolizes that the institute is further recognized concerning its leading role in demonstrating integration between industry and education.

List of provincial demonstration modern industrial institutes

Since the Institute of Intelligent Manufacturing Industry was approved to be included in the first batch of demonstration industrial institutes in August 2019, it has stayed consistent with the goal of serving national strategies and regional economic development to deepen integration between industry and education and innovate the approaches to talent cultivation. Consequently, it achieves outstanding results in the targeted matching between its curriculum and industrial requirements as well as deep integration between scientific research and production practice.

The Institute of Intelligent Manufacturing Industry focuses on auto industry cluster, the strategic pillar industry of Huadu District, Guangzhou. Therefore, it has established further cooperation with enterprises such as UNIPRES GUANGZHOU CORPORATION for eight years to cultivate talents in an comprehensive way with job requirements as its orientation driven by scientific research projects. Moreover, it formulated talent cultivation programs based on Outcome-based Education (OBE) cooperating with enterprises and formed a distinctive training program featuring “accreditation of majors and integration between industry and education”. Based on the program, the institute has cultivated around 800 high-quality skilled talents, which enables it to achieve the smooth switching of its graduates’ roles from students to employees.

The Institute of Intelligent Manufacturing Industry also integrates various resources to jointly build 16 collaborative innovation platforms with enterprises to achieve breakthroughs in scientific research while organizing its students to participate in scientific research projects as well as internship and practice, thus promoting deep integration between industry and education and innovative development. It not only provides technical support and talent cultivation for enterprises through the building of such platforms, but gives its students opportunities to take part in actual projects of enterprises. In this way, it realizes a positive interplay of “teaching - scientific research - industry”.

Over the years, the Institute of Intelligent Manufacturing Industry has formed its three characteristics, including “with auto industry as its feature, driven by accreditation of majors and integration between industry and education, and scientific and technological services”, which achieve a mechanism of integrated talent cultivation that is consistent with industry-university-research requirements of auto industry. Consequently, it has cultivated abundant skilled talents for auto industry cluster while providing intellectual support for achieving breakthroughs in key technologies for enterprises, thus boosting the high-quality  regional economic development.
