GCUT held the opening ceremony of the Joint Laboratory of Urban Connectivity and Energy-Saving Technology that is jointly built in cooperation with SCUT

To further enhance the cooperation in scientific research and talent cultivation between Guangzhou City University of Technology (GCUT) and South China University of Technology (SCUT) and promote the innovation and development of urban intelligent connectivity and energy-saving technologies, GCUT held the opening ceremony of the Joint Laboratory of Urban Connectivity and Energy-Saving Technology (which is jointly built in cooperation with SCUT) in Room 201 of GCUT’s Administrative Building on the afternoon of December 24. Related representatives attended the ceremony, including GCUT’s vice presents Zhou Shiyao and Shang Qichao, dean of GCUT’s School of Computer Engineering and Big Data Xi Jianqing, adviser of SCUT’s Institute of Energy-Saving Technology Peng Xinyi, dean of SCUT’s Institute of Energy-Saving Technology Guo Weihong, personnel in charge of related departments and offices as well as schools, and teacher representatives.



Xi Jianqing hosted the ceremony, extending warm welcome to present guests. He pointed out that the jointly building of the Joint Laboratory of Urban Connectivity and Energy-Saving Technology could further enhance exchanges and communications between the two universities, which is also significant for GCUT to improve its scientific research and application capability drawing on SCUT’s Institute of Energy-Saving Technology concerning its talents, technologies and resources. Moreover, it is important for the building of smart cities and the connectivity of GCUT’s campus systems.

Guo Weihong delivered a speech on behalf of SCUT’s Institute of Energy-Saving Technology. He mentioned that research on green and smart health would lead the direction of strategic development. Therefore, the Joint Laboratory of Urban Connectivity and Energy-Saving Technology will focus on the research and development of urban intelligent connectivity and energy-saving technologies to carry out forward-thinking and practical projects to advance innovation of scientific research. Furthermore, it can make great contributions to the cultivation of quality talents through serving its teaching. He hoped that both sides could play an active part in the progress and development of the industry through mutual support and help.

Then, Xi Jianqing and Guo Weihong signed the Agreement of Jointly Building the Joint Laboratory of Urban Connectivity and Energy-Saving Technology on behalf of the two sides and announced its inauguration.



Representatives from both sides delivered speeches after the opening ceremony. Peng Xinyi introduced the orientations and missions of SCUT’s Institute of Energy-Saving Technology, which aim to advance the sustainable development through technological innovation. The institute now has outstanding achievements in research and professional scientific research teams. He hoped that the jointly building of the laboratory could further enhance the cooperation in scientific research of both sides, while contributing to GCUT’s quality evaluation of undergraduate teaching.

Zhou Shiyao appreciated the strength of the institute drawing on its devotion to GCUT’s two buildings that are under construction, namely, Scientific and Technological Innovation Center and the new library. She hoped that the jointly building of the Joint Laboratory of Urban Connectivity and Energy-Saving Technology could boost GCUT’s development in serving the society. Both sides are expected to advance the construction and development of the laboratory upholding the principles of openness, cooperation and innovation. Shang Qichao put forward that urban intelligent connectivity and energy-saving technologies could promote the sustainable development of the campus. He anticipated that the joint laboratory would achieve optimization of resources and effective utilization based on GCUT’s realities, thus embracing intelligent upgrading of GCUT regarding its teaching, scientific research, management and daily life.

The opening ceremony symbolizes that the cooperation between GCUT and SCUT has reached a new stage. They will continue to join hands to promote the innovative development of smart cities and energy-saving technologies in the future. In this way, they could make more contributions to creating a more intelligent and green urban environment.
