The opening ceremony of Huawei ICT Academy of Guangzhou City University of Technology (GCUT) was held in Room 617 of GCUT’s Administrative Building on December 18. Its establishment serves as a new approach to exploring cooperation between colleges and businesses as well as integration between industry and education while strengthening GCUT’s capacities in the cultivation of talents that satisfy the need of regional economic development. Related representatives attended the ceremony, including Wei Demin, vice president of GCUT; Zhang Xingming, director of GCUT’s Academic Affairs Office; Yao Ruohe, dean of GCUT’s School of Electronics and Information Engineering & Telecommunication Engineering; Yin Haoyang, talent manager of the Department of Guangdong Industrial Development and Ecology of Huawei; Chen Chuzhao, CTO of Guangzhou “Kunpeng + Ascend” Innovation Center of Huawei; Chen Wenzhong, director in charge of ecological cooperation of the Department of Guangdong Industrial Development and Ecology of Huawei; Qiu Shaojie, general manager of Xunfang Technology (South China); Chen Liang, general manager of Xunfang Technology (Guangzhou); related personnel in charge of GCUT’s School of Electronics and Information Engineering & Telecommunication Engineering; and representative teachers and students from GCUT.

Vice president Weidemin delivered a speech on behalf of GCUT. She pointed out that the ICT industry calls for quality talents as the acceleration of digital transformation. As a leading provider of ICT infrastructure and smart devices, Huawei will bring new opportunities for GCUT’s integration between industry and education and collaboration in joint training with introducing its advanced curricular system, teaching resources and platform for practice based on their cooperation. Upholding “openness and cooperation with shared opportunities”, GCUT will play an active part in promoting related work drawing on the cooperation, thus advancing the innovation of talent cultivation. Furthermore, it endeavors to cultivate quality ICT talents that can satisfy the need of industrial development through integrating education chain, talent chain, industrial chain and innovation chain into the cultivation of talents.

Yin Haoyang and Qiu Shanjie delivered their speeches on behalf of Huawei and Xunfang Technology respectively. Yin Haoyang put forward that education is speeding up its integration with digital technologies, therefore, Huawei hopes to take advantage of itself and GCUT to explore curriculum construction and cultivation of teachers, thus cultivating more quality application-oriented talents for the development of the industrial chain of the ICT industry while injecting new momentum into the growth of independent innovation. Qiu Shaojie looked back on the good cooperation between Xunfang Technology and GCUT, extending gratitude for the support of GCUT’s leadership, teachers and students. He emphasized that the opening ceremony could not only mirror  appreciation won by GCUT concerning integration between industry and education as well as cooperation between colleges and businesses, but a new start for deepening their cooperation. Therefore, Xunfang Technology will spare no effort to boost the high-quality cultivation of application-oriented talents with GCUT, promoting the sound development of ICT talents.

Later, the Huawei ICT Academy of GCUT was inaugurated by related leadership from GCUT and enterprises.

Chen Chuzhao, CTO of Guangzhou “Kunpeng + Ascend” Innovation Center of Huawei, and Zhu Qihang, training manager of Xunfang Technology presented their keynote speeches respectively after the opening ceremony, which were themed on Trend of the Computing Industry and Innovation of Root Technologies and Ecosystem of the ICT Industry of Huawei: Laying a Foundation for the Future Network.

Moreover, related leadership of GCUT, guests from enterprises, personnel in charge of GCUT’s School of Electronics and Information Engineering & Telecommunication Engineering and its core teachers participated in the seminar held in Room 201 of GCUT’s Administrative Building. Centered around tripartite partnership, participants discussed topics such as curriculum construction, empowering of teaching resources, practice-based education, teachers and students participating in competitions, scientific and innovative activities, commercialization of  achievements and employment. Zhang Xingming stressed that course serve as a core element of talent cultivation, thus he appreciated the curricular system of the Huawei ICT Academy featuring “basis - core - orientation - practice”, which is developed step by step. Cao Yinglie, deputy dean of GCUT’s School of Electronics and Information Engineering & Telecommunication Engineering illustrated that the fundamental goal of cooperation between colleges and businesses is to improve the quality of talent cultivation. Therefore, the school will integrate its strength and resources to advance such cooperation through various research and argument with talent cultivation as its focus.

Integration between industry and education and cooperation between colleges and businesses function as two significant approaches to the cultivation of application-oriented talents. The opening ceremony of the Huawei ICT Academy symbolizes that GCUT has made steady progress in the cultivation of quality application-oriented talents in the ICT industry. GCUT will continue to explore new path to the cooperation between colleges and businesses in the future, thus lending fresh impetus to regional economic development and the cultivation of application-oriented talents.
