GCUT held the 2025 psychological work meeting for this semester

Guangzhou City University of Technology (GCUT) held the 2025 psychological work meeting in Room 703 of the Administrative Building on the afternoon of March 5 in order to better promote mental health education of this semester while enhancing GCUTers’ consciousness of mental health and maintaining a harmonious, safe and stable campus environment. Related representatives attended the meeting, including Deputy Secretary of CPC Guangzhou City University of Technology Committee and Vice President Liu Jianbo, personnel in charge of GCUT’s Students Affairs Office and Safety and Security Office, secretaries of GCUT general Party branches of all schools, all counselors and psychology teachers.



Deputy Director of GCUT’s Students Affairs Office Han Xinsheng passed on the spirit of related documents released by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education and then reminded the key work of this semester at the beginning of the meeting. Firstly, universities need to enhance organizational support of mental health education through making it included in GCUT’s reform and development, talent cultivation and the supervision evaluation system, which should also be a significant reference of the ability of school running and the quality of talent cultivation. Secondly, students’ psychological adjustment during the beginning of the semester should be paid attention to. Moreover, student’s mental health education and counselling services should be strengthened in line with developing an education system that will foster a new generation of young people who have all-round moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetical grounding with a hard-working spirit while integrating mental health education with education and teaching, management and students’ growth. Finally, he mentioned that the mechanism of psychological crisis intervention for college students should be improved to focus on students’ mental health conditions. Therefore, joint prevention and control as well as the coordination between parents and the university should also be improved through establishing mental health mechanisms with coordinating with all departments and overall participation. Han pointed out key psychological work such as psychological inspections of the Class of 2022 should be carried out, and activities of mental health education need to be innovated based on the spirit of the document of related documents released by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education.

Vice President Liu Jianbo stressed that GCUT’s psychological work meeting was held in the right time. It comes to a high-occurrence season of students’ psychological problems and crisis in this semester, thus every unit should pay attention to students’ mental health conditions so as to address and students’ psychological problems in time, hence intervention and counselling can be adopted to avoid losses caused by negligence and mistreatment. Meanwhile, he recognized related personnel’s efforts and achievements in psychological work last year, hoping related teachers can forge ahead with determination in the new year, thus maintaining the safety and stability of the campus, which helps to create an opening, inclusive and supported campus environment.

Finally, full-time psychology teacher from South China Agricultural University, Dr. Lin Yuan was invited to give a speech themed on “pressure management and a happy life”. With introducing the survey of teachers’ mental health problems in recent years, Lin emphasized the coexisting problem of teachers and students’ mental health problems as well as the importance of handling pressure management. She explained the concept of pressure management, suggesting that teachers can adopt the following methods for pressure management, such as identifying sources of pressure, writing pressure diaries and adjusting attitudes since pressure at a medium level will bring the best working performance. She put forward that the key to maintain mental health was to actively respond to the requirements of the external environment, expounding skills of creating a healthy and harmonious lifestyle and increasing their sense of happiness based on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. She also reminded that the influence of interactive effects of physical and mental health to one’s mental health.

The meeting helps participants to clarify the key work and direction of this semester, which also improves their awareness of the importance of such work while enhancing their confidence and motivation in the future.
