Students Affairs Office and School of Computer Engineering and Big Data of Guangzhou City University of Technology (GCUT) held a public welfare activity themed on “recycling second-hand items to spread love”.
Coldness could not stop students’ enthusiasm on that day. They donated their used clothes and books to a designated place, showing their passion for public services and concern for children living in remote areas, which embody their pursuits of carrying forward the Lei Feng spirit through concrete actions.
Donated used goods
The special part of the activity was the area set for writing postcards with best wishes, which gathered their love and warmth. These exquisite postcards, filled with love and hope, will be sent together with donations to children living in remote areas, serving as a comfort and nurture. Youths can fully understand the meanings of keeping accumulating goodness, which can build their moral characters through donating such items and writing best wishes for children. In this way, they can further realize the core value of Lei Feng spirit in the new era while taking concrete actions.
Students were writing their wishes on postcards
A used item carries one’s loving heart while a postcard mirrors one’s responsibility. A student from GCUT’s School of Management pointed out that she found a note with best wishes in a book that her mother wrote in her senior school when she packed her unused books. “I was suddenly aware that these books not just belonged to me, instead, they should serve to lighten others. Just as Lei Feng’s saying: I will devote my limited lifetime to serving our people with no limits. What we pass are not just books, but a spiritual ‘relay’.” Another student also shared her view: “I noticed that the pen my father sent me still works when I packed my unused stationery, whose inside pen lid was carved an old saying, that is, ‘Excellence in work is possible only with diligence’. The pen that accompanied me through the national college entrance exam now is going to children living in remote areas. Lei Feng once wrote ‘youth is always gorgeous’ in his diary. We carry forward the spirit of Lei Feng with concrete actions.”
